LiFePO₄ (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries are widely considered to be one of the safest lithium battery types available today, with excellent thermal and chemical stability that significantly reduces the risk of overheating and fire. LiTime's LiFePO₄ batteries have passed a number of international certifications including UL, FCC, CE, RoHS and UN38.3, ensuring their quality and safety.
In addition, all LiTime batteries have a built-in battery management system (BMS), which provides over voltage, under voltage, over current, over mild short circuit protection during charging and discharging to prevent battery damage. Upon receiving your battery, it might have a low state of charge (SOC) due to transportation and storage. To ensure optimal performance, please charge the battery immediately to prevent over-discharge.
For batteries equipped with Bluetooth functionality, they may arrive in a powered-off state, displaying a terminal voltage between 3V and 5V, which prevents connection to your smartphone. This is a standard shipping practice, akin to how mobile phones are shipped powered off, to minimize self-discharge and extend battery lifespan.
To activate the battery, you can use either an AC-DC lithium battery charger or an MPPT solar charge controller to charge it for 3 to 10 seconds. After this brief charging period, the battery should function normally.
If you intend to store the battery for an extended period, it's recommended to charge it to approximately 50% SOC and perform maintenance every three months. This practice helps preserve the battery's functionality and performance over time.
The Group 24 battery is a standard model measuring 10.5″L x 6.1875″W x 8.875″H, commonly found in RVs, backup power systems, and medical equipment. These batteries are frequently utilized as deep cycle batteries rather than for starting engines.
The auto self-heating function will be activated by the BMS when the battery is connected to a charger at -20℃ to 5℃ (-4℉ to 41℉). The heating will stop when the battery temperature reaches 10℃ (-4℉).
These two battery series are specifically designed to address the challenges of charging LiFePO₄ lithium batteries in cold weather conditions.The primary distinction between the Low-Temperature Protection series and the Self-Heating series lies in the inclusion of an automatic heating module within the Battery Management System (BMS).
The Self-Heating series is equipped with a built-in mechanism that autonomously warms the battery during the charging process, requiring no additional action from the user.In contrast, the Low-Temperature Protection series will automatically halt charging when the temperature drops below 0℃ (32℉).
To resume charging, users must manually warm the battery, such as by placing it in a warmer environment until it reaches approximately 5℃ (41℉).This differentiation ensures that users can select the battery series that best suits their specific cold-weather application needs.
No. The charging will start after the lithium battery heats itself to 10℃ (50℉).
External heating only heats the casing and does not heat the battery cells. In conditions of -20°C, after external heating for two hours, the battery cells temperature rise to 5°C, but the lead-acid casing temperature has risen to 70-80°C.
Therefore, it is not recommended to externally heat the battery, as the actual cell temperature cannot be determined at this time.
1. Using Solar Panels
The battery can be fully charged in one day (with effective sunshine 4.5 hrs/day) by 400W solar panels. It may take more than one day to fully charge the battery by ≥400W solar panels since the duration and intensity of light would be a great factor for their charging efficiency. Besides solar panels, there are 2 more ways to charge.
2. Generator/Alternator
If the alternator or generator supports DC output, a DC-to-DC charger is needed to connect the battery to the generator; if your alternator or generator supports AC output, please add a suitable battery charger to connect the battery and the generator according to our recommendations. The Recommended Charging Voltage: 14.2V - 14.6V. The Recommended Charging Current: ① 20A (0.2C): the battery will be fully charged in around 5 hrs to 100% capacity; ② 50A (0.5C): the battery will be fully charged in around 2 hrs to around 97% capacity.
3. LiFePO4 Smart Chargers
To charge 12V battery, it is recommended to use 14.6V battery charger.
The Recommended Charging Voltage: 14.2V - 14.6V. The Recommended Charging Current: ① 20A (0.2C): the battery will be fully charged in around 5 hrs to 100% capacity; ② 50A (0.5C): the battery will be fully charged in around 2 hrs to around 97% capacity.
